Program Note:
Two Movements for String Quartet was an exploration in making a lot out of a small amount of music. It started out as using a single chord to make an entire movement of music. I then wrote a second movement as a contrast to the first. The first movement is fast, rhythmic and aggressive, using the main chord as a home base. Conversely, the second movement is slow and distant, making use of many different string techniques such as glissando, pizzicato, and harmonics. These two movements are designed to be different, yet they can also be seen as the same. They differ greatly in style and mood, however they are both based on the same simple idea.
